Adding icons to your desktop

To start adding icons to the desktop , right- click the desktop and select Personalize from the popup menu. In the Personalization window , click the setting to " Change desktop icons . " In the settings window icon on the desktop , select the icons you want see on the desktop as the computer ( known as Windows 8.1 "This Computer" ) , user files , network, Recycle Bin and Control Panel . Click OK .

To add icons to the main folders Explorer open files. Right-click the folder you want to see on the desktop, such as Documents , Music or Pictures. Move to " Desktop ( create shortcut) " "Send To" command in the menu and select from the popup menu.


Finally , create a desktop shortcut for a file, open File Explorer . Click and hold on the file . Drag the file to the desktop and release the mouse. A popup menu appears with three options: " Copy Here ", "Move here" and " Create Shortcut Here" . Select the third option.

You can also arrange your desktop by sending shortcuts to desktop applications from the Home screen and the All apps screen. Open the Home screen or the All Programs screen, then click on a tab for a desktop application. On the application bar, select "Open file location." A shortcut to the application opens in the File Browser. Click, drag the shortcut file on the desktop, then release the mouse. In the popup menu, select the second option, "Copy here".
