5 Tricks every computer user needs to know

In a perfect digital world , you can sit on any computer or collect any gadget and just use it . There would be a learning curve or solutions. Unfortunately, that will never happen . With all due respect to the late Mr. Jobs even Apple products is not always " just work . "

Small problems and pains appear when you least expect it . That's why we 've rounded up these five tricks. Keep them in the back of your mind and leave the eventual jam.

1. Retrieve a memory card slot CD

Speaking of jams , let's start with one of my favorites. Units / Blu -ray Slot- loaded CD / DVD are elegant and stylish. Unfortunately, it is easy to accidentally stuck items not drive there.

One of the most common objects is the SD memory card . This happens frequently to users of iMac. After all, the slots of memory card player and are next to each other. However, it can happen and CompactFlash slots. And I'm sure someone has put a microSD card into the SD card slot .

The big question is how to get the card back . In some cases, power tongs work well. However, with a CD slot-loading , you do not have the room.

Instead, use cardboard, not corrugated . Cut an "L " and put the short end in the slot. Turn L at the short end is placed behind the card , then throw . Simple !

2 . Recovering photos from a damaged card

While we're on the topic of SD cards , let's talk about the pictures. A new , high- capacity SD card - smaller than a postage stamp - can hold thousands and thousands of photos. It is a photographer's dream .

Of course , in case of breakage of the card becomes a photographer 's nightmare . So I recommend you take a number of smaller SD cards on a trip . If one breaks or is lost, you have not lost many photos .

Then there are times when a memory card is just crazy. You put it on the computer and it shows up blank , which is corrupt or missing files simply .

If the card reader is not broken and that the card is not damaged externally , have a bad card . But hope is not lost.

Grab a program to recover photos. Zero Assumption Recovery Recuva and two good .

Tip within a tip: These free recovery programs find hidden or deleted files on memory cards elements. You can use them to recover files flash drives and hard disks also .

After a search , you can view the photos and other missing files. When recovering files , be sure to save them to your hard drive. Do not try to save them to the memory card !
Not only is dying card , you will overwrite the files you are trying to recover. Trust me, it does not end well .

3. Zoom in on web pages quickly

You bought a new computer and it came with a large high-resolution monitor . Now the text in your favorite websites is too small!

Fortunately , your browser zoom shortcuts . In all major browsers , pressing Windows Control (Command on Mac) and then click the plus sign to expand the image Go Too Far? Control and minus away . I love this!

Want to go back to the starting point ? Control and 0 (that's a zero) puts you back to the default zoom level .

This way you can adjust each site using your individual tastes. It will save your eyes and your sanity.

4. Use private browsing

Let's stay in browsers for a moment. Did you know that your browser logs everything you do ?

It is not only the search history , cookies and passwords , which saves images and code to a special cache for later use . Anyone who knows what they are looking for can see what you've been doing.

That's why the latest major browser has a privacy mode. This prevents the browser from recording things .

You can find the private browsing mode in the options menu of your browser. In Chrome called incognito mode . In most browsers, you can just use the shortcut Control + Shift + P. Once again , Chrome is different with Control + Shift + N.

Unfortunately, this does not always stop the browser from creating a cache . To delete it , you can delve browser options menu , or you can take a third cleaner , like CCleaner .

5. Take a screenshot

Need to show something computer related to a faraway friend or family member ? Want to capture an error code for technical support ? A screenshot is the solution.

As its name suggests, a screen image is created. And it is not hard to do .

The easiest way is with the keyboard. In Windows , simply press the Print Screen button on your keyboard (sometimes abbreviated as Prnt Scrn or in other ways) . This saves the entire screen to the Windows clipboard . Then you can paste into an email or a graphics program .

On a Mac , Command + Shift + 3 takes a screenshot of the entire screen and saves it to the desktop. Command -Shift-4 does the same, but you can select which area of the screen capture.

Of course , sometimes you need a little more control. Or maybe you want to annotate the screenshot to the person who receives it.

In Windows Vista , go to Start >> All Programs >> Accessories and select Snipping tool . Click the upside-down triangle next to the New button to select Rectangular Snip . Then click and drag the red box to what you want to capture .

This will save a file can be edited , or you can paste the image to the right in an email . For Windows XP, you can use a third party tool like Greenshot .

On a Mac , open in Preview . Or go to Finder >> Applications >> All Preview or go to Spotlight, type in " Preview" and click the icon.

Go to File >> Take New Picture. Choose your type of screen and go to town. You can add text , arrows and circles using the editing toolbar ( View >> Show edit toolbar ) .

Once you 're done, save it as a picture and send it .

Now feel smarter? You should . You have the answers to the dilemmas common technology.
